Pergolesi's Stabat Mater in a new setting for female chorus and Jazz ensemble.

Featuring Seraphim, Karl Rooney, Michael Lynch, Carolyn Goodwin - Saxophones, Derek Cremin - Piano, and Deirdre Frost - Electric Bass.

This performance will support the Cork Children's Chorus Cultural Exchange Programme 2005 / 2006.

The Works Chorus with Sonya Keogh - Mezzo Soprano, and string quartet perform the premiere of the Honan Mass, commissioned from John O'Brien by the Honan Chapel.

Carols From Cork 2005

Musical Director: John O'Brien

A Cork 2005 and RTÉ production broadcast on Christmas Eve 2005.

The event, recorded in November 2005, with a festive theme and including an array of guest artists including Sir James Galway, Majella Cullagh, Dennis O'Neill, Jean Kelly, and G4, along with Cork Children's Chorus, Seraphim, and Madrigal '75. Mary McAleese, President of Ireland reads, together with a number of well known Cork sporting personalities. Carols From Cork 2005 is presented by Gay Byrne.

The programme is punctuated by performances of Seasonal Carols sung by an audience of massed choirs and including The Works Chorus.

 


 

 





 

 

 

Cork Children's Chorus Cultural Exchange Programme (Part I)

28.11.05 - 04.12.05

The first leg of the Cultural Exchange Programme 2005 / 2006 took place in November / December 2005 with the arrival of 'Little Cherries Tamae' in Cork.

Little Cherries stayed with members of the Cork Children's Chorus, performed and went to school.

Perfromances by Little Cherries included a special concert for Cork Children's Chorus in Millennium Hall, City Hall; paticipation in Carols from Cork 2005, and in the Lord Mayor's Gala Concert in City Hall.

The return trip will take place in the first week of July 2006, when Cork Children's Chorus will perform in three cities in Japan, as part of the 'International Music Festival for Youth' on the southern island of Kyushu.

Criteria?

Cork Opera Works in association with Cork City Council and the Arts Council present The Cork Children's Chorus Composer-in-Residence Programme 2005.

As part of Cork City Council's Criteria? Artist-in-Residence Programme, International Film Composer, C.S.L. Parker is currently resident in Cork and has become an honorary member of Cork Children's Chorus.

Over the past few months the children have shared their stories of the sea with C.S.L. Parker. In return, C.S.L. Parker has created waltzes, inspired by their maritime tales, for them to perform.

Ships and Waltzes, the publication and CD, are currently available for sale in our web shop.

Fujiwaria Chorus

Cork Children's Chorus host the chorus of the Fujiwara Opera, the National State Opera of Japan, in a private concert where the choruses perfromed for each other, and perform together works from the Cork Children's Chorus repertoire.

Sacred Music Series (IV): Requiem by John Rutter

Mezzo Soprano: Sonya Keogh

Conductor: John O'Brien

The Works Chorus with chamber ensemble of flute, oboe, cello, harp, organ and percussion perform Rutter Requiem. In association with the Honan Chapel UCC, and the UCC Student's Union.

This performance takes place in a liturgical setting.

Cork Children's Chorus join Cara O'Sullivan on stage along with Mairead Hickey, violin, and the Carlow Young Artists Choir.

Cork Opera Works, in association with Cork 2005, and the Cork International Choral Festival, present a single performance of John Gibson's Judith & Holofernes.

Judith & Holofernes is a chamber opera commission by Cecil Hurwitz to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the PEACE movement in Cork. It tells the Biblical story of the beheading of Holofernes by Judith.

The opera is set for a chamber ensemble of piano, recorder, trumpet and percussion, soloists and chorus. The performance, as part of Cork International Choral Festival 2005, was the first staged production of this work.

The Cork Children's Chorus begins with a series of workshops in the Triskel Arts Centre and in outreach venues in RAPID areas throughout the city. More than five-hundred children take part in Jubilate Deo workshops and one-hundred children are selected to become the first Cork Children's Chorus.
